How Long Does Microblading Take To Heal?

Updated: May 22, 2022

Microblading Healing Day by Day

Before you have your microblading procedure, have a detailed discussion with your makeup artist. They will explain to you the procedure, what to expect during the healing process and provide you with aftercare guidelines once you have had the procedure.

Here is what you can expect after having the microblading procedure

Day 1:

Right after the procedure, your brows will look a little thicker and luscious. The color of your brows will be darker, but it will fade considerably as the healing process begins.

Days 2 - 3:

By days 2 and 3 you can expect the colour to start settling down.

Days 3 - 5:

By day 3 your eyebrows will get a little dry and will start to flake off a bit so keep them moisturized with the aftercare cream I provide.

This is a sign that your healing process has begun and everything is fine under the skin.

Days 12 - 21

The color of your eyebrows will start to look more natural and their texture will become smoother. Your eyebrows will look feathery and the eyebrow hairs will have a more defined look.

Days 21 - 30:

Within 21 to 30 days you can expect your skin to have healed completely. You feel that your eyebrows have a fuller and soft look as compared to how they were right after the microblading procedure.

Depending on how quickly your microbladed brows fade you’ll need to have a follow-up appointment with your makeup artist. This will keep your brows looking full and luscious every moment. This is around six weeks time.

Microblading Healing After A Touch-up

Having touch-up sessions every once in a while is essential to keep your microbladed brows in top-notch condition. Regular touch-ups maintain your eyebrow's shape, color, and definition.

Most people will require a touch-up in 12 to 18 months after their initial session of microblading. However, the frequency of these sessions will depend on the speed with which your microblading fades.

A touch-up is essentially the same procedure, compared to your first session but on a smaller scale. Since these sessions only target a few areas of your eyebrows the healing process is quicker and people report shorter healing times.

Skincare After Microblading

Here are some steps you should follow for proper care:

- You should avoid getting the micro-bladed region wet for at least the first 7 days. You will need to keep your eyebrows dry while taking showers as well.

- You should also avoid wearing makeup on the eyebrows for at least a week after a microblading session. Because makeup can interfere with the settling of the pigments into the skin layer.

- You should also avoid picking scabs and flakes.

- Avoid swimming, saunas, and tasks that cause excessive sweating for seven days.

- Keep your hair tied up and away from the micro-bladed region.

- Apply ointment or balm that is prescribed by your makeup artist.

Is The Touch-up Session Necessary?

A touch-up session can be necessary depending on the results of your microblading procedure. Every individual heals differently and the outcome varies from person to person. You can expect to have your first touch-up after 6 weeks.

In this session, the semi-permanent makeup artist will adjust the pigment color, brow thickness and add more strokes to make your eyebrows fuller.

Clients with oily skin require deeper shades of pigment because oils tend to lighten the pigment. Most importantly, touch-up sessions help in defining the shape and looks of your eyebrows.

What Can I Expect During the Healing Process?

You can expect changes during the healing procedure. Every day your brows will have a little different look and there will be moments when you will think that your color is wrong or the shape of your brows is wrong.

The healing process requires patience and discipline, but it will be worth it in the end.

Every person's skin heals at a different rate. Some people recover quickly and without any scabs at all, while others need as long as 6 weeks or more for their skin to heal.

There are several factors that affect the pace of recovery:

  • Age

  • Skin type

  • Overall health
